Super Bowl Weekend Recap

Happy Groundhog Day. Sorry to inform you all that there are 6 more weeks of effin' cold for anyone living above the Mason Dixon. I foresee two more weeks of chilly weather in SC then some back-sweat creating heat for about 6 months.

So Saturday afternoon was a nice bball experience. Went to my first ACC game this season. GT finally showed up for its first ACC game of the season. Here are my thoughts: We won on free throw shooting and a strong inside game. Mo Miller is the point guard even though Iman has the talent he's still more of a combo guard. Gani is damn good.

Afterwards, I stayed for a little bit of the Letterman's Game. Watched Dennis Scott and Deion Glover trade NBA threes for a bit. Marvin Lewis still has a ridiculously smooth shot. Jeremis Smith got in the crowd-pleasing thunder dunks while former walk-on David Nelson ran point. Pretty good stuff.

Concerning the Super Bowl, I thought it was a pleasant game. I wish the Cardinals could've had one more shot at the red zone but what can you say. Whiz said it best when asked about Fitzgerald takin' it to the house, "We left them too much time." What do you think about a longer winter? Have you ever tried groundhog meat? What's in store for GT BBall? Will the Cards resign Boldin or let their Super Bowl team dissolve in the off-season?

The Yellow Jacket in the Big Game

Bird's having some computer issues on his end so I published his entry for him.....



We all know about the Whiz leading the Cardinals but who else is reppin' the I in the Big Game this weekend?

Old Key Fox plays for the Steelers. #54. Drafted in 2004 as the 93rd overall pick to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fox was part of the most ridiculous LB tandem, I feel, since maybe the Black Watch. Keyaron Fox and Daryl Smith were basically an unstoppable force in '03. Smith and Fox combined for 284 tackles (143 solo), 35 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. That's pretty ridiculous. They basically played 2 on 11 the entire game. We had a patchwork defensive line that had undersized Gerris Wilkinson playing DE (he would also become a great LB) and a really young secondary.

Favorite Memory: Key Fox sacked Joel Statham in the 2003 Maryland game that led to a fumble, which was returned by Jonathan Cox all the way to the MD red zone. We scored a TD with about 14 minutes left in the 4th quarter and won the game 7-3... Probably the most boring game ever but it somehow includes the most vivid and exciting play of my entire GT fandom.

Super Bowl pick or thoughts on the big game? Steelers favored at -7. I'd take that line if I bet on sports.

The Whiz

How do we explain Ken Whisenhunt's Cardinals? I only really have one explanation: engineering background. Whisenhunt was a Civil Engineering major who graduated from Tech in 1985. He actually finished his career at Tech, as a tight end, with the secondmost receiving yards in school history and fourthmost receptions (he's currently 16th in receptions and 14th in yardage).

Whisenhunt quarterbacked one game for Tech in 1980 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He stepped in as the starter Mike Kelley and his backup were both injured in game. Whisenhunt attempted one pass and was sacked before he got to pass. The game ended in a tie 3-3 and derailed Notre Dame's quest for an MNC. Sadly, it also allowed ugag to vault to #1 in the polls and an eventual title.

I will slightly pull for the Cardinals as Whisenhunt reps the I but will not forget the loss incurred by the Falcons to his posse. I guess the irony is that Whisenhunt designed the offense that took the Steelers to their lone Cowher Super Bowl win and now he's coaching against that same offense in his first attempt at a Lombardi Trophy.
